About this product
"Adam lights up in a smart and bright way, always determined through his creative passion of honesty and being courageous"
This Kapu Minaral (Beautiful Colours) Pendant Lampshade – was produced in a vibrant collaboration with Moa Arts, a Torres Strait Islander-owned art centre on Moa Island.
Moa Island is a unique region, a tropical paradise with turquoise waters and swaying palm trees. It is a flourishing cultural community with many talented artists among its 240 residents. The artists find inspiration right on their doorstep, as Moa Island and its surrounding waters boast diverse ecosystems, home to rare and remarkable species like Dugongs and Sea Turtles. These exquisite pendant lampshades are inspired by the sea, land, sky, family and ancestral tales, reflecting the colour and energy of the Torres Strait.
Each lampshade is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, often adorned with local seedpods, shells, native fibres, rope, and raffia, embodying the very essence of this land. Each lampshade is a unique expression of its artist who wove it.
Paula Savage, an esteemed artist and member of Moa Arts, beautifully encapsulates the sentiment: "This lampshade represents all hopes and dreams of my people. Each colour describes different generations after generations of Moa Island."
