Koskela supplied furniture and bespoke screens for the new Axle Building in Eveleigh, Sydney, which is the first of three buildings to be developed by Mirvac for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA). 

Located at the former Australian Technology Park site, the new financial technology centre will eventually accommodate 10,000 technology and operations staff. The aim is to create the best workplace in Australia – a space that brings flexible working and environmental sustainability to the fore of corporate office design.  

Woods Bagot helped achieve this aim with their design for the fitout of the Axle Building: 

Conceived as a miniature city, the mix of structured and personal spaces provides settings for collaboration balanced by those for independent tasks and retreat. Café-style meeting areas, multipurpose rooms for groups, secluded private booths and outside terraces give staff the freedom to connect from wherever. The clear delineation of these areas invites intuitive movement among them. Technology has been simplified and unified, allowing teams to work effectively in real time, no matter where they are. Booking of meeting rooms and entry to the building and lockers are all accessible from a smartphone app. 

As well as supplying our standard products, Koskela developed several bespoke pieces in collaboration with Woods Bagot. 

For the Retreat Lounge – bookable hubs away from the main circulation – Koskela created freestanding screens. These cocooning structures are covered in sheer fabric with a printed ombre finish that creates a subtle sense of privacy. Koskela also developed meeting pods with integrated power and data for breakout spaces, and the Aurora table as a collaborative meeting table or workstation. 

Delivered on time and on budget, Koskela is proud to have contributed our Australian-made products to this worldclass workplace project.
