Custom Furniture & Bespoke Design

Koskela has the unique capability to design, manufacture and install highly integrated custom and bespoke furniture for workplaces and institutions. With over two decades of industry experience, we know off-the-shelf products rarely meet the demands of executive fitouts. A more flexible and future-proof solution is needed.

Koskela are specialists in this type of solution. As an Australian company that manufactures locally, we have an agile team on the ground that can oversee a bespoke project from start to finish.

Customisation

Many Koskela products can be customised to suit a project’s specific requirements.

Because our furniture is designed in-house and manufactured locally, we can adapt many of our standard pieces without starting from scratch. This flexibility allows designers to retain the character and quality of an existing Koskela design while tailoring it to suit their space, brief or aesthetic.

Common customisations include:

  • Adjusting dimensions or proportions
  • Selecting alternative materials or finishes
  • Specifying custom powder coat colours or upholstery
  • Integrating power, castors or accessibility features
  • Adapting furniture for specific spatial constraints

This approach is particularly valuable for workplace and education environments where layouts, compliance requirements or user needs may vary from standard furniture dimensions.

Bespoke

Sometimes an off-the-shelf product simply won’t work.

Koskela’s bespoke design service supports projects that require completely custom furniture solutions, whether due to scale, complexity or unique spatial requirements.

With more than two decades of experience designing and manufacturing furniture in Australia, our team works closely with architects, interior designers and project teams to develop furniture that integrates seamlessly into the built environment.

Bespoke projects often include:

  • Executive and boardroom tables
  • Custom collaboration furniture
  • Integrated seating or joinery
  • Furniture for unusual or complex spaces
  • Site-specific furniture for public, cultural or institutional projects

Our industrial design team develops the concept and production documentation, while our network of local manufacturers brings the design to life. Installation is then coordinated with builders and project teams to ensure seamless integration on site.

First Nations Design Facilitation

Koskela also offers First Nations Design Facilitation, enabling organisations to incorporate authentic First Nations perspectives into the built environment.

For more than a decade, Koskela has collaborated with First Nations artists, art centres and collectives to create meaningful design outcomes that reflect place, culture and community.

Through this service, we act as a bridge between clients, designers and artists—facilitating a respectful and collaborative design process that supports both cultural integrity and project outcomes.

Our facilitation scope can include:

  • Interpreting the project brief and site context
  • Recommending appropriate mediums or design approaches
  • Identifying and engaging suitable artists or art centres
  • Managing contracts and ensuring ethical collaboration
  • Collaborating with artists to translate concepts into built outcomes
  • Documenting the story and process behind the work

These projects can acknowledge Country, support Reconciliation Action Plans, and create meaningful cultural narratives within workplaces, campuses and public buildings.

Our Process

We work collaboratively with design teams to deliver furniture that meets both aesthetic and functional requirements.

1. Brief

We begin by understanding your project requirements, spatial constraints and design intent. This may involve reviewing drawings, discussing materials, or exploring whether a customised product or bespoke solution is the best approach.

2. Concept Development

Our industrial design team develops concepts that respond to the brief. This stage may include sketches, material exploration and early technical documentation.

3. Design & Documentation

Once the direction is confirmed, detailed drawings and specifications are prepared to ensure the design can be manufactured efficiently and performs as intended.

4. Manufacture

Furniture is produced through Koskela’s network of trusted Australian manufacturers, allowing for close collaboration and quality control.

5. Delivery & Installation

Our team works with builders and project managers to coordinate delivery and installation, ensuring the furniture integrates seamlessly into the space.

Custom Projects & Case Studies

Koskela has delivered hundreds of projects across Australia for leading organisations, working closely with architects and interior designers to develop customised and bespoke furniture solutions.

The projects below showcase some of the ways our design team and local manufacturing partners have adapted, customised or developed furniture to suit specific spaces and project briefs.

Boardroom

Koskela has delivered boardroom tables with a high level of specification for clients such as Macquarie Bank, Ausgrid and Dexus. We can facilitate the creation of an original boardroom table that is only limited by your imagination. Alternatively, you can customise one of Koskela’s standard tables to suit.

A Koskela boardroom table looks to embody an organisation’s identity in its design and materiality, while seamlessly integrating the latest technology requirements.

Breakout tables

Breakout areas require a high level of flexibility for different sized groups to configure according to their needs. And tables are usually the focal point of breakout areas. Like our boardroom tables, Koskela can facilitate the creation of an original breakout table that is only limited by your imagination. Or you can customise one of Koskela standard tables to suit.

Screens

In recent years, bespoke screens have become a popular solution for delineating spaces. Whether loose or fixed to the ground, screens not only offer privacy, but utility such as with a whiteboard or pinboard screen, or ambience such as with a plant screen.

Banquette seating

Built in banquette seating is a failsafe solution to maximise space, especially when power and data is integrated. Koskela can create banquette seating with a high level of finish for beautifully resolved spaces.
