Materials and Finishes: Why it matters

Responsibly sourced, long lasting and low-impact materials

We’re committed to using the most sustainable materials available — prioritising those that are responsibly sourced, long-lasting, and low-impact. Where possible, we select materials that can be repaired, refurbished, or recycled, supporting the full lifecycle of our products. We also know that innovation doesn’t stand still. That’s why we’re always exploring new and emerging materials that could help us reengineer our furniture to be even more circular, adaptable, and environmentally responsible.

Fabrics and Finishes

Fabrics:

We specify Australian made fabrics, natural fabrics and fabrics made
from post
consumer / post industrial recycled materials
that are all designed for
durability and long-term use

What this means:

Laminates and Veneers:

We use FCS certified Laminates and Veneers

What this means:

Resource efficient: Maximises yield from each tree

Reduces pressure on old-growth or slow-growing species

Makes better use of forestry byproducts and lower-grade timber

Reduces material waste: Less waste during manufacturing

More consistent yields and efficient use of raw materials

Enhanced durability and lifespan - increases the lifespan of furniture in high-use settings like offices or schools

Reduces the need for refinishing, repair, or replacement

Enables refurbishment instead of full replacement

Extends the useful life of the product

Helps reduce the overall environmental footprint of furniture manufacturing

Supports lower-impact material choices aligned with sustainability goals

Sustainable bamboo:

Ultra-durable fused strand bamboo fibre that is renewable, recyclable and biodegradable

What this means:

Woolpack:

A biodegradable material made from wool fibres that are too fine or short to be spun into textiles — a byproduct of the sheep’s wool industry. These microscopic fibres are otherwise considered waste, but they’re repurposed to create a natural, compostable lining commonly used in packaging

What this means:

Diverts waste from landfill

Makes full use of the existing wool supply chain

Adds value to an agricultural byproduct

No lasting environmental footprint

Safer
alternative to synthetic packaging foams or plastics

Can be composted at end of life

Reduces reliance on fossil fuel-derived insulation and packaging

Supports agricultural systems already in place

Naturally non-toxic and breathable

Reduces need for synthetic insulating foams

Strengthens regional supply chains

Reduces transport emissions compared to imported synthetics

Aligns with circular economy principles by looping in waste streams

Replas (Recycled plastic substrate)

Replas is a range of durable products made from recycled soft plastics, such as plastic bags, food packaging, and shrink wrap — materials that are typically difficult to recycle and often end up in landfill. By transforming post consumer plastic waste into useful, long-life products

What this means:

Reduces the volume of plastic going to landfill

Gives hard-to-recycle plastics a second life

Cuts emissions and energy use associated with manufacturing virgin plastic

Lowers environmental footprint of infrastructure and furniture made from plastic

Helps close the loop on plastic production

Engineered timber:

Engineered timber is a real wood product made by bonding multiple layers of wood
together, often with a top layer of hardwood veneer. It's designed to offer the look and feel of solid wood while providing enhanced stability, affordability, and resistance to warping and moisture

What this means:

Reduces waste by using wood that would otherwise be discarded

Makes efficient use of smaller or lower-grade logs

Reduces deforestation

Allows
for lighter, stronger designs using less material

Ideal
for commercial and high-use environments like offices or education spaces

Minimises defects, warping, and inconsistencies found in solid timber

Improves efficiency in fabrication and material planning

Supports scalable, low-waste manufacturing processes
