About this product

Illuminate your space with the Ku:yitaipari Floor Lamp, a limited edition piece that brings together contemporary lighting design and traditional weaving practices. Created by Ngarrindjeri weavers Ellen Trevorrow, Noreen Kartinyeri and Bessie Rigney, each lamp reflects the skill and knowledge of its makers.

Inspired by the traditional Ku:yitaipari (fish trap) form, the woven shade is shaped using bundles of sedge bound together in a continuous coil. This process reflects a long-standing cultural practice, where weaving is both a practical skill and a way of bringing people together—sharing knowledge, stories and connection.

The lamp is paired with a solid sandstone base, grounding the piece in a natural material palette that complements the woven form.

Each piece is handmade, resulting in subtle variations that highlight the individual craftsmanship of the weavers.

Koskela's social impact collaborations

Illuminating Stories. Empowering Communities. Designed for Purpose.

Koskela’s Social Impact Lighting collections is groundbreaking collaboration between our design team and First Nations art centres across Australia, transforming traditional weaving practices as well as artist-led contemporary design into modern, functional lighting for both residential and commercial interiors.

Every pendant or wall light is handwoven by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists using locally harvested plant fibres and natural, hand-made dyes. These materials are gathered through labour-intensive processes that maintain cultural practices and support community-led environmental stewardship—from foraging and dyeing, to weaving and finishing.
