About this product
Gulima Bean Bag — Flexible, Durable, and Fun Seating for Learning Spaces
The Gulima is Koskela’s beloved Nomad Bean Bag, reimagined for primary and secondary education as part of the Learn by Koskela range. A student favourite, this lightweight and ultra-comfortable seat supports independent reading, relaxation, and informal collaboration in libraries, breakout spaces, and common rooms.
Crafted from Australian-made Nomad canvas, a hardwearing, tear-resistant fabric originally developed for high-performance outdoor gear, the Gulima is built to withstand daily use in busy learning environments. The outer shell is water-resistant, and the removable cover makes cleaning simple and sustainable.
Inside, a cotton inner liner keeps the fill safely contained to avoid spills. We recommend filling your beanbag with Envee Eco beans, an innovative plant-based alternative to traditional polystyrene that is compostable at end-of-life, supporting your school’s environmental goals.
Thoughtful details like contrast stitching, an industrial-grade zip, and a canvas handle that doubles as a wall hook ensure the Gulima is as practical as it is playful.
Gulima translates to a basket made from the knot of a tree, and the word originates from the Dharug Aboriginal language in Sydney. The name is a nod to the seat’s flexible, gathered form and to Koskela’s commitment to celebrating First Nations languages.

Made in Australia
All Koskela products are proudly made in Australia. By supporting us you also support our manufacturing partners who employ skilled workers that produce high quality products backed by a 7-year warranty.
Social Impact
A portion of proceeds from the sale of this product go towards the Ginda Barri program at the Macleay Valley Workplace Learning Centre (MVWLC) in Kempsey. This program offers support for student mums, a high proportion who identify as First Nations, to continue their high school education.
AfterCare™
Koskela products can be serviced to keep them looking like new and extend their life. Components are repairable or replaceable, so you can swap out a part rather than having to repurchase the whole. In most cases, this maintenance can happen onsite, reducing disruption and delays.
Continuously improving
Koskela has ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Assurance and ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management certification. This certification provides independent verification to our stakeholders and customers that Koskela is committed to quality and improving environmental performance.
GECA Certification
GECA is an Australian-based certification scheme, which ensures that products and services have a reduced environmental impact throughout their lifecycle. Qualifying Koskela products contribute towards environmental project schemes such as Green Star, LEED and WELL.
Carbon Reduction
Koskela invests in the latest technology and innovative practices to reduce this product’s carbon footprint. Our organisation is committed to absolute zero, with no carbon offsets, by 2030. To keep us accountable we annually measure our carbon emissions and set goals for reduction.
Biophilic design
This product embodies biophilic design principles: using natural finishes or finishes that mimic natural products, no straight lines or right angles, non-toxic materials and colours that reflect nature. Studies have shown that the adoption of these design principles has a positive impact in learning environments.
