About this product
Bulada Modular Ottoman — Flexible, Playful Seating for Collaborative Learning Spaces
The Bulada (Snake) Modular Ottoman is a playful soft seating solution designed to spark movement, creativity, and collaboration in school libraries, classrooms, and common areas.
Developed originally in collaboration with Abbotsleigh Girls School, Bulada was designed to “snake” organically through open spaces — inviting curiosity and enabling a wide range of seating configurations. The product name, Bulada, comes from the Dharug Aboriginal language, meaning snake, reflecting both its form and versatility.
This Straight ottoman comfortably seats 3-4 high school students and can be combined with the Small ottoman and Straight ottoman to form flowing, serpentine layouts that are both functional and visually engaging.
Constructed from dense GECA-certified Dunlop Enduro foam, the ottoman is lightweight and modular, making it easy for students or staff to reposition and reconfigure to suit different learning modes. The base uses modified legs from the trusted Yakka desk system, known for its durability and material efficiency.
The seat is upholstered in 100% eco wool fabric, available in four colours that are inspired by the Australian landscape: Bamal (Earth), Burran (Stingybark), Daramu (Tree), Badu (Water).
This tonal variation mimics nature, supporting biophilic design principles to foster a calm and stimulating learning environment.
If you are specifying a setting, we recommend you pick the same colour for every ottoman (Small, Large and Straight). Say you pick Bamal (Earth), the colour of the legs for each ottoman will be the same, but the fabric will be a tonal variation of that colour.
Covers are removable and replaceable, allowing for easy dry cleaning and ongoing refresh over the product’s long life.
