About this product

Ragudha Mud Mussel Wall Light

Bring cultural heritage, natural texture and warm, ambient light into your home with the Ragudha Lighting collection. These handcrafted statement lights are inspired by the rägudha (mud mussel), which thrives beneath the mangrove plants of Yurrwi (Milingimbi) in Arnhem Land. Just like the mussel is a cherished food source, these pendants celebrate connection to place, community and Country.

Each wall light is woven in collaboration with Milingimbi Art and Culture, a community-owned art centre on Milingimbi Island. This partnership supports sustainable livelihoods for Yolŋu artists and helps preserve traditional weaving techniques that have been passed down for generations. Milingimbi Art and Culture is a cultural, social and economic cornerstone for the community, and each pendant embodies that vital role.

Launched in 2019 as part of Koskela’s Ngalya Collection, the Ragudha range was created in partnership with six First Nations art centres. Koskela is committed to long-term, respectful collaboration with First Nations artists and art centres, dedicating 1% of all product profits to impactful social projects. By choosing a Ragudha Pendant, you’re supporting local artisans and bringing an authentic piece of Australian cultural heritage into your home.

Each piece is crafted using traditional materials such as pandanus, raffia, and bush string, some Ragudha pendants also incorporate reclaimed wool. Every piece is unique, reflecting the individual artist’s miny’tji (design) and weaving techniques. When combined, these individual works form a yindi (big) artwork — a stunning, meaningful addition to any interior space.

Available in three sizes - Small, Medium, and Large - these pendant lights are equipped with LED strip lighting and wall bracket for easy installation by a professional electrician.

Please note: This piece is made from one individual woven component.

Dimensions: 450mmL x 300mmH

Lighting spec sheet

“At the art centre we are thinking together how to put the gunga ga bulgurr onto the frame but we all use our own miny’tji (design). We all know different ways of weaving and knotting. Putting our work side-by-side with all our different miny’tji together to make one yindi (big) artwork makes it really latju (beautiful)... Weaving is dharrwa djama (lots of work) but we are happy to keep going.”
