This etching was created during a Paul Machnik workshop held at Buku-Larrŋgay Print Studio in 2013. The workshop introduced a new printmaking technique to the art centre, using aluminium plates coated in a malleable white ground and etched in a copper sulphate bath.
The artist produced two complementary images — one capturing the sun setting, and the other the sun rising. In Yolŋu language, Walu means sun, and the sun’s rays are known as Wana, meaning arms in English.
