About this product
Ngarang Chair — A Comfortable, Colourful School Chair for Primary Classrooms
The Ngarang Chair is a playful, practical seating solution designed specifically for primary school learning environments. Adapted from Koskela’s beloved Jake Chair, this junior version maintains the same iconic aesthetic in a scaled-down form — perfect for supporting children through early learning and development stages.
“Ngarang” means “junior” in the Dharug Aboriginal language, reflecting Koskela’s commitment to using First Nations language in naming the Learn by Koskela collection.
Originally released in 2013 as a reimagining of the classic school cafeteria chair, the Jake Chair’s robust form and nostalgic charm make it a favourite across education spaces. The Ngarang brings that same spirit to the classroom in a child-friendly format — available in four vibrant powder coat colours, inspired by the Australian landscape.
The chair’s durable steel tube frame ensures long-lasting performance in high-traffic learning environments. The seat and back are made from whitewashed plywood, offering a natural, timber aesthetic. For additional comfort and support, the seat is padded and upholstered in a commercial-grade, stain-resistant fabric, helping students remain focused during lessons or group activities.
Lightweight and stackable up to six high, Ngarang is easy to store and rearrange — a must-have for flexible, agile classrooms.

Social Impact
A portion of proceeds from the sale of this product go towards the Ginda Barri program at the Macleay Valley Workplace Learning Centre (MVWLC) in Kempsey. This program offers support for student mums, a high proportion who identify as First Nations, to continue their high school education.
AfterCare™
Koskela products can be serviced to keep them looking like new and extend their life. Components are repairable or replaceable, so you can swap out a part rather than having to repurchase the whole. In most cases, this maintenance can happen onsite, reducing disruption and delays.
Continuously improving
Koskela has ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Assurance and ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management certification. This certification provides independent verification to our stakeholders and customers that Koskela is committed to quality and improving environmental performance.
GECA Certification
GECA is an Australian-based certification scheme, which ensures that products and services have a reduced environmental impact throughout their lifecycle. Qualifying Koskela products contribute towards environmental project schemes such as Green Star, LEED and WELL.
Carbon Reduction
Koskela invests in the latest technology and innovative practices to reduce this product’s carbon footprint. Our organisation is committed to absolute zero, with no carbon offsets, by 2030. To keep us accountable we annually measure our carbon emissions and set goals for reduction.
