About this product
Boowambillee Coffee Table — Australian-Made Timber & Sandstone Statement Piece
The Boowambillee Coffee Table is a sculptural centrepiece that brings together natural Australian materials, organic design, and deep cultural reference. Designed in 2022 to mark Koskela’s move to Sub Base Platypus on Cammeraygal Land, it honours Sydney’s rich history and landscape through its form, texture, and name.
Boowambillee [booh-uhm-'bil-ee] is the Eora name for Shark Island — one of the sandstone landforms scattered throughout Sydney Harbour. The table’s soft, irregular top shape is inspired by these natural islands, their wind-sculpted cliffs, and the flowing contours of the Australian coastline.
Crafted from solid Victorian ash, the organic tabletop is supported by solid Sydney sandstone legs — a grounding element that connects the piece to Country both literally and symbolically. Sandstone has shaped Sydney’s story for over 200 million years, from ancient First Nations rock engravings to colonial architecture, making it both materially rich and culturally significant.
Perfect for living rooms, lounge areas, or open-plan spaces, Boowambillee is available in three sizes — small, medium, and large — that can be styled individually or nested together for a layered, sculptural look.
Both sandstone and Victorian ash are natural materials, so every boowambillee will vary slightly in colour and grain direction, which is part of its character and beauty.
