About this product
Available in three sizes - small, medium, large - that can nest together or be purchased separately.
The tops are solid Victorian Ash and organic in shape, both to reduce timber offcuts and to take inspiration from the islands of Sydney Harbour, which are the backdrop for Koskela's new store at Sub-Base Platypus on Cammeraygal Land, North Sydney. Boowambillee (booh-uhm-'bil-ee) is the Eora language name given to Shark Island.
The legs, made of solid Sydney sandstone, are the other defining feature of the coffee table and of Koskela's new home. Sandstone tells us so much about Sydney's history and place in time; the city sits on a sandstone bedrock and is boxed by sandstone escarpments to the west, south and north. Sydney sandstone was formed from the sands which came from Antarctica about 200 million years ago and carried by a vast river system. It holds cultural knowledge in the rock art that First Nations peoples carved into it, which are still visible in the Cammeraygal area today, and sandstone was also used as a building material by first settlers.
Both sandstone and Victorian ash are natural materials, so every Boowambillee will vary slightly in colour and grain direction, which is part of its character and beauty.
- Top is solid Victorian ash finished with a water-based seal containing UV inhibitors
- Legs are solid Sandstone, quarried in Sydney
