Koskela is proud to have contributed a range of furniture to the new community hub, Marrickville Library. In a past life, the heritage-listed space was Marrickville hospital, an institution which closed its doors thirty years ago. The building was left largely unused, dilapidating with the ravages of time. However, under the creative direction of architectural firm BVN, the space has been reimagined.

The library seamlessly interweaves its heritage foundations with contemporary design to create smart and energy efficient spaces. Koskela is excited to have been involved with a project which heroes sustainability in design. Recycled timber and bricks were used where possible, along with design measures which have reduced the library’s energy use by 25 percent.

Koskela’s signature Jake chairs can be found nestled throughout the library, accompanied by our PBS tables and coffee tables, HB table and Nurrka Sofa, pegboards and Licht Pendant lights. When we arrived at the library on a Tuesday morning at 9am for the photoshoot, it was difficult to find an empty table to photograph, a clear testament to how valued the library has become to the Marrickville community.

We also developed junior versions of our Jake chair and PBS Table for the children's section of the library. The bright powder coat colour finishes adding to the palpable sense of fun and play in the space.

Delivered on time and one budget, Koskela is honoured to have contributed our Australian-made products to a thriving community space.
