About this product

Handwoven Pendant Light – A Unique Collaboration with Milingimbi Art and Culture
Discover the beauty and cultural significance of our social impact pendant lights, handwoven by artists from Milingimbi Art and Centre in North East Arnhem Land. Each pendant is part of the exclusive Yutu Dukitj lighting collection, developed in partnership with Koskela in 2016.

Named ‘Yutu Dukitj’ which translates to ‘grow together’, this name was chosen by the artists for their lampshade project as it speaks to the young and senior artists working together.

This pioneering collaboration fuses traditional Indigenous weaving techniques with contemporary design, resulting in lighting pieces that are both stunning and deeply meaningful. Every pendant is individually crafted using pandanus and bush string, naturally dyed with seasonal plant-based colours. Because each artist has the freedom to interpret the form, no two pendants are the same – each one is a one-of-a-kind expression of culture, craftsmanship, and creativity.

Koskela purchases each completed light directly from the artist, removing financial risk while ensuring fair compensation. Art centres receive a management fee to reflect their vital coordination role, supporting long-term sustainability. Additionally, Koskela donates 1% of all product sales to social impact initiatives with our First Nations partners.

By choosing a Yutu Dukitj, you are supporting First Nations artists, preserving traditional weaving practices, and investing in handcrafted, ethical, Australian-made design.

reclaimed materials, it is best for your
lampshade to avoid harsh sunlight.
Pandanus and bush string are also
dyed using a variety of natural
materials such as roots and berries.
Over time, fading may occur. This is a
process inherent to a natural product
and should not be viewed as a fault.
We suggest dusting lightly and
