Tiwi artists are recognized nationally and internationally for their beautiful ironwood carvings. Depicting local birds and traditional ceremony (Pukumani), Tiwi artists harness the medium as a contemporary expression of culture.
STRONG TIWI showcases one of the oldest and most artistically diverse art centres in Australia – Tiwi Design. Located on Bathurst Island, 80km north of Darwin, Tiwi Design is home to over 100 First Nations artists working across a range of mediums, including: canvas, bark, ironwood carvings, textiles, sculpture, and print.
