About this product

Boowambillee Coffee Table — A Sculptural Tribute to Sydney’s Land and Story

The Boowambillee Coffee Table is a refined statement piece that brings together natural Australian materials, organic forms, and deep cultural reference. Designed in 2022 to mark Koskela’s new home at Sub Base Platypus on Cammeraygal Land, this coffee table honours the rich history and geology of Sydney through form, texture, and name.

Boowambillee [booh-uhm-'bil-ee] is the name in Eora language for Shark Island — one of the many sandstone landforms scattered across Sydney Harbour, which inspired the table’s soft, sculptural top shape. Made from solid Victorian ash, the top’s organic outline is intentionally irregular — reflecting island forms, wind-carved cliffs, and the Australian landscape.

Each table is supported by solid Sydney sandstone legs — a grounding element that connects the piece to Country both literally and symbolically. Sandstone has shaped Sydney’s landscape for over 200 million years, carrying stories from First Nations rock engravings to colonial construction, making it both materially rich and culturally significant.

Available in three sizes (small, medium, and large), Boowambillee tables can be nested together or specified individually to suit commercial lounge settings, reception areas, breakout zones, or naturally inspired interiors.
