Tili Wiru Pendant - Series 2 - Margaret Smith

$2,090

This hand woven pendant is part of a collection of Tili Wiru Series 2 lights developed by Koskela in collaboration with the Tjanpi desert weavers.

Handwoven from a collection of local grasses (tjanpi), the pendants are particularly vibrant due to their use of bold colour, beads and feathers, features traditionally found in Tjanpi work. As an individual artist weaves the shade, each light is a one off and therefore entirely unique.

Tjanpi Desert Weavers was set up by the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council in 1995 and is a social enterprise providing an income source for hundreds of women who go out bush, collect their local grasses (or ‘Tjanpi’) and weave them into baskets, sculptures and now lighting.

Artist: Margaret Smith, 1063-21.
Dimensions: 660mm Dia x 520mmH (Large).
Materials: Local Grasses. 2 Metre Black Woven Flex, Black fitting, Black ceiling rose.

Each lampshade is wired with a black woven flex cable and ceiling rose and the lamp holder fits any E27 bulb. Globe and installation not included.

All lights come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

This pendant lampshade is a continuation of Koskela’s social impact projects with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art centres. Koskela has collaborated with the Yolngu weavers of Elcho Island Arts on Yuta Badayala (In A New Light), the Tjanpi Desert Weavers on Tili Wiru (Beautiful Light), and Moa Arts on Kapu Minaral (Beautiful Colours).
