This hand woven pendant is part of a collection of Tili Wiru lights developed by Koskela in collaboration with the Tjanpi desert weavers.
Handwoven from a collection of local grasses (tjanpi), the pendants are particularly vibrant due to their use of bold colour, beads and feathers, features traditionally found in Tjanpi work. As an individual artist weaves the shade, each light is a one off and therefore entirely unique.
Tjanpi Desert Weavers was set up by the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council in 1995 and is a social enterprise providing an income source for hundreds of women who go out bush, collect their local grasses (or ‘Tjanpi’) and weave them into baskets, sculptures and now lighting.
Artist: Cynthia Burke, 2168-19.
Dimensions: 240 Dia x 260mm H
Materials: Woven green/blue/orange/red wool panels and ininti strings. 2 Metre Black Woven Flex, Black fitting, Black ceiling rose.
Each lampshade is wired with a black woven flex cable and ceiling rose and the lamp holder fits any E27 bulb. Light bulb not included.
All lights come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
We’re celebrating 10 years of social impact work. This pendant lampshade is a continuation of Koskela’s social impact projects with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art centres.
