‘I love a sunburnt country’ is a poem by Dorothea Mackella written in 1908. The poem was written during a visit to the UK and reflects Mackella’s longing for Australia. Her choice of language allows the readers to capture an emotional insight into the unique landscape and environment of Australia. The poem was an instant success and published in the UK, it has since become a recognised and cherished description of Australia.
