Wendy McDonald paints from her property Thule Lagoon, near the Murray River in Southwest NSW. Her work draws from the ecology of the local environment, the ebb and flow of the creeks and rivers and the dramatic changes of the seasons. She is honoured to tell the story of the ephemeral floodplain and the joys of belonging to a small community, through her art.
In Quietly, Wendy has turned to the exceptionally dry conditions of 2018; how living on the lagoon “requires an acceptance and understanding of place in all its guises. If you don’t bend, you may break. We sit here quietly whilst recognising the power of this land and its arid beauty. It embraces us as we must embrace it."
