Untitled - Lilly Ulah - Ku Arts

$1,345

Lilly Ulah was a renowned Ngangkari (healer) and Yankunytjatjara woman who lived in Cooper Pedy, northern South Australia. At over 80 years of age, Ulah’s talent was discovered in 2010 when the Coober Pedy Arts Project began running workshops. Ulah’s paintings represent significant areas such as rock holes and land formations, all of which were created by Ancestral spirits; her paintings allowed her to paint sites that were a core part of her identity and life.

Mrs Lilly Ulah's artworks are sold on behalf of her family whom receive the proceeds from her sales.

Ku Arts (Aṉanguku Arts and Cultural Aboriginal Corporation) is the South Australian peak body for Aboriginal art centres and artists. Ku Arts was established in 1988 by the artists of the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands to promote the creation of art in eastern APY communities and help establish locally owned and governed art centres in the region.

Providing advocacy, support services, creative skills and professional development opportunities for artists and arts workers, Ku Arts works to support and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture within the visual arts sector.
