Design By Koskela
For almost 20 years Koskela has been designing furniture and homewares for workplaces, educational institutions, and homes throughout Australia.
We design products for today’s open-plan environments: flexible, durable and contemporary. Fun, too! Australians do not take themselves too seriously, and Koskela’s signature style is timeless with a playful twist.
Our mission is to combine intelligent contemporary design with quality craftsmanship to be the best we can be. After all, we are in it for the long haul. Our hope is that if you buy a Koskela product you will treasure it for life.

At the core of Koskela’s environmentally conscious policy is our commitment to make high-quality products that last for years and can be repaired if something goes wrong. While we believe our furniture will last as long as possible, if something does go wrong, we are here to help.
All Koskela products are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship under conditions of normal and proper usage for 7 years from the date of purchase—this warranty transfers to whoever owns the product. After this time, if something goes wrong, contact us and we’ll let you know if we can fix it for a reasonable cost.
Profits and ethics can go hand-in-hand.

Certified B Corporation
B Corporations are leaders in the global movement of people using business as a force for good. There are 2,788 Certified B Corporation® 's from more than 150 industries in 64 countries with 1 unifying goal: to redefine success in business.
Koskela is proud to be the first furniture and homewares company in Australia to be a Certified B Corporation®. We believe in more than the bottom line and want to demonstrate how a better business can create a better world.
Koskela products will always be made in Australia. It would be cheaper to manufacture overseas, but we believe the benefits of manufacturing locally far outweigh the costs.
We can guarantee the skilled craftspeople who make our furniture have good conditions and receive a fair wage. As members of Supply Nation, we procure from verified First Nations businesses whenever possible.
By manufacturing in Australia we also reduce our carbon footprint. Our furniture travels less kilometres and therefore less greenhouse gases are emitted into the atmosphere.
As product makers, we assess the lifecycle of the input materials we use and make enviro-friendly substitutes wherever possible. We also offer ways to refurbish your Koskela products to extend their life for as long as possible.
Within our business we do whatever possible to reduce our carbon footprint. That is why Koskela furniture is made in Australia. Many of our furniture pieces are GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia) Certified. We also have a volunteer group of employees—eco warriors—who implement sustainability initiatives throughout the business.
We are most proud of our decade long partnership with Rainforest Rescue which has led to the protection of a hectare of the Daintree Rainforest and the planting of thousands of native Australian trees.
Our 1% Promise
Koskela is deeply committed to using our design and production skills to empower First Nations artists and makers. We facilitate collaborations between artists working in First Nations-owned art centres and our team, to create new contemporary design products and concepts. This generates an income independent of Government, helping artists to continue to live a life they have chosen to lead and maintain their traditional practices.
To further the development of these opportunities, from 2017 onwards Koskela has committed an additional 1% of all other Koskela product sales to go towards the realisation of these projects with First Nations owned Art Centres. This 1% is derived from the sale of other Koskela items such as furniture and our work on corporate projects, equating to around 10% of our profits.
To date we have collaborated with 49 First Nations organisations, who have received over $1 million in funds.
About Art Centres
There are now more than 70 Art Centres throughout Australia. They are located in First Nations communities and are owned and governed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. In many cases Art Centres are the heart of the community, a safe haven and education centre with the accomplished artists commanding huge respect and pride. The Art Centres work with the artists to build and develop their art practice while protecting the artists’ rights.
Koskela works with artists through their Art Centre and are members of the Indigenous Art Code which is a system to preserve and promote ethical trading in First Nations art.
First Nations Design Facilitation
We work with clients, designers, consultants, coordinators, manufacturers and artists to develop and realise large scale projects in partnership with First Nations art centres.
Koskela’s vision for reconciliation is that the voices of First Nations peoples, and their cultures, are recognised, respected and consulted. We also aim to recognise, respect and highlight the diversity of First Nations peoples and cultures.
We have a Reconciliation Action Plan to outline the objectives of the work we do with First Nations owned and governed Art Centres and their artist members, further a path to Reconciliation and make sure we continue to develop and grow deliverables in this area.
