Kapu Minaral Pendant - Josie Nawia - Many Colours

This hand woven pendant is part of a new collection Kapu Minaral, developed by Koskela in collaboration with Moa Arts. The collaboration, a first of its kind, uses traditional weaving techniques to create a truly beautiful and contemporary design product. As each individual artist has complete freedom to interpret the form, each light is a one off and therefore entirely unique.

Moa Arts is a Torres Strait islander owned and operated art centre on Moa Island. The local artists are inspired by their connection to the sea, land, sky and family, the colour and exhilaration of the Torres Strait is reflected in each pendant.

Artist Statement:
My lampshade is woven out of colourful knitting wools. I admire fluorescent colours and I love my weaving, knitting and crocheting. I see this as a spiritual and cultural practice, it gives me peace, healing and relaxes me after a hard day’s work.

The many colours on the lampshade represents all the children, people from all walks of life and beliefs and cultures. No matter our culture, our background or our nationality, we all share a dream through our spiritual walk of life, that reflects through our heart and is woven through our art. With one heart, and many colours, we are the unique people. Although we are
many, we are one.
